SAP authorizations are the elephant in the room when it comes to SAP security and compliance. Still, many organizations struggle to have a clean authorization concept in place. Quite often, users would rather have “too many” authorizations. How can one mitigate the risks associated with that?
Monitoring or auditing usually is easier to set up and maintain than preventive controls, i.e. than a more restrictive and more enforced authorization concept. This is called Access Violation Management (AVM): the process of identifying, analyzing, and mitigating access risks and policy violations related to user permissions, ensuring compliance with Segregation of Duties (SoD) and other rules.
