Release note: samQ v3.6.2

First release 2020: samQ v3.6.2 is now available!

The first samQ release in 2020 is quite impressive – samQ v3.6.2. We have once again made a number of sensible and useful changes without confronting our customers with a completely new user interface. Read it yourself…

System and network independent internal billing

Imagine the following scenario: A company, like most of our customers, is positioned globally. The SAP landscapes are organized decentrally, but license management is controlled centrally at a specific location.

A separate samQ must run in each SAP landscape in order to optimise it. This is not a problem as samQ is installed in no time at all. But the central license management would like to have permanent access to the optimization data in order to be able to strategically prepare and carry out the SAP license negotiations.

This was also not a problem in the past, the samQ report data was simply sent to the license management. However, this procedure was not optimal because it was not an automated process.

This is now different!

samQ can now be used decentrally as often as desired. The data from the decentralized SAP landscapes can therefore be automatically sent to a central samQ system at any time. There the data is cumulated, validated and made available to the license management which takes over the evaluation.

Now the required license transfers between the companies or central new purchases can be realized. Everyone is permanently up to date.

More and more transparency with samQ v3.6.2

The user list has always been one of the most popular tools in samQ for centrally accessing important information. This has now been optimised in two ways.

Firstly, the ALV list functions have been converted and improved. On the other hand a new column has been added. This column which shows whether a user has obtained the current license by pure optimization or by filling in a higher license which was still free at that time.

samQ Report a little bit better again

Over the years the samQ Report has become an increasingly powerful information tool and a central collection point for a wide range of detailed information.

The new release now extends the spectrum even further. It is now possible to go directly to the corresponding processing log in the list under “User licence per system” by clicking on the user name. With a click on the license you will now immediately see the list of used transactions and components.

Deal with ZBV

From the very beginning samQ has harmonized well with the ZBV. We have further optimised this cooperation so that samQ now automatically recognises whether a CUA is present. The users present there are then automatically taken into account during the User Read. Thus samQ now distinguishes between users who are necessary for organisational purposes and those who are really active.

Transaction for the quick import of SAP users to be excluded

From time to time it is necessary to exclude individual users or even whole groups from the optimization. In samQ there was previously a customizing area provided for this purpose. With many exclusions this method quickly became confusing. Then the VOQUZ experts were often called upon to implement such entries automatically via report.

Now there is a separate transaction with which entire Excel lists with users to be excluded can be uploaded in one process.

Analysis of the frequency of use of transaction groups

samQ now offers a possibility to analyze the frequency of license usage. As soon as a user carries out a transaction he is assigned the appropriate license which can be very expensive under certain circumstances. Even if the user only uses this transaction once every six months, the expensive license will still accrue.

This low usage of transaction groups is now automatically determined by samQ and is therefore transparently displayed. Now you can decide whether this low usage can be prevented in order to reduce the organisational licensing costs.

Compliance Report

The moment samQ is started there is enormous potential for optimisation and it shows which users are incorrectly licensed. Until now the samQ Report was the central place where a general summary of the optimisation results was displayed and evaluated.

A new report now includes the individual user and shows which license a user currently has and which he should have. This report will hardly be needed later in regular operation, because samQ basically prevents incorrect licensing.

As samQ can now also exclude users from the optimization, the new report helps to create transparency and shows where there are intentional or unintentional rule violations or over-licensing.

Web services are evaluated in an optimized way – samQ v3.6.2

The trend in working with SAP is more and more towards Fiori or web services. This means that the familiar transactions used in the past are often replaced by program parts from such sources.

samQ has long been able to collect this data and use it for optimization. Unfortunately with the license relevant part also comes a lot of data which is not relevant for the license creation.

With the new release most of this data is now automatically filtered out during collection. What is filtered out can be seen in Customizing and can be changed and extended. This makes samQ considerably leaner.

…and last but not least…

Once again many small improvements, bug fixes and data cleansing have been carried out, which we have noticed ourselves or discovered at the suggestion of our customers. At this point we would like to thank our customers who help us to make samQ always a little bit better.
